The next event is on Saturday 9th April at Wykeham Forest near Scarborough. You will have to visit the first 10 controls in order then collect a map with the remaining 20 controls and visit as many as possible in however long you have left from your 2 hours.
Please send your postal entries to Sue Adams again. If you are emailing dont forget to include your Class, Full Name, TCA and SI numbers (if you have them). She doesnt know you as well as I do yet!
We will include the 3 new TCA classes in the league for over-60s; J Men; K Women; L - Mixed
169 riders this month so thanks to Steve Langron and Robin Harris for planning an excellent course and setting out the controls and to the usual team of willing volunteer helpers.
Unfortunately I must start these comments with a request. Will you please read the final details whether you are a newcomer to the sport or a regular? I write and distribute them to help the event run smoothly by repeating the same general information especially for newcomers and giving any important extra information.
Most riders got the message that you had to visit the first 10 controls in order before visiting as many of the remaining 20 - so you couldnt punch any extras that you found on your way. Those riders who visited controls 12 or 18 during their route from 1-10 have had the relevant points deducted.
Due to environmental reasons the Forestry Commission did not want us to leave the tracks in the forest at this event so I wrote in block capitals NO SHORTCUTS THROUGH THE TREES. A number of riders went directly from 25 to 27 and 2 have already told me so their scores have been reduced by 30 points. I am sure that there are more but, with control 25 not working, it is difficult to work out. Please let me know if it includes you so the Forestry Commission can see that we are a responsible group of competitors who try to stick to the rules but are prepared to admit making mistakes and apologise.
Back to the event. If you did visit control 25 and havent claimed the points please let me know the letter that the punch made on your map and I will amend your score.
I hope you liked the format of having to visit the first 10 controls in order. We use Wykeham every year and the planners wanted to make the event slightly different and, judging by your comments, I think they succeeded. I think we will have to try some extra amendments to stop Andy winning but he wasnt that far ahead with some good route planning by other riders. Andy went up and down the north slope twice while most of you tended to stay on the plateau.
The next event is at Thixendale in the Yorkshire Wolds on Saturday 14th May. Sue Adams is on holiday so please send your entries to me at our new address 42, Stanley Grove, Richmond DL10 5AU after April 20th. You can still contact me at the same email address and mobile phone number.
The Sneaton Forest event scheduled for April 30th has been postponed until a later date.
If you are emailing dont forget to include your Class, Full Name, Town, TCA (and SI) numbers
