Thanks to Andy Mundy and Dave Goodwin for planning another excellent course, to the helpers for making the event run smoothly, especially the control collectors who went out when you had finished, and to you for entering and enjoying the event. I thought it was an excellent area and the weather was far kinder than the last time we had an event here.
If you enjoyed it (or missed it) you can have another go next Wednesday evening on the treasure hunt planned by Tony Beresford which is starting at the Black Swan at Fearby. Please send me an email by return if you want to reserve a map.
There were a few controls that caused discussion afterwards. The controls in the woods were interesting and all in the correct place although the holly bush at Control 8 wasn't as obvious as the beech tree. A few riders didn't read the Final Details so didn't know that you could cycle anywhere in this area. Control 12 wasn't quite right so if you couldn't find it please let me know so that I can amend your score. It should have been in the dip in the track but was about 100m further east by the gate to the barn. I was about to leave it out when Jens Strain suggested that he had found what we were looking for!!
Paul Caswell registered an impressive score but Tim Moorhouse is still just ahead of Andrew and Wayne. Heather Dawe won comfortably on her first outing and hopefully she will continue to compete once Mandy gets back in the saddle. Mike Naylor rode well to beat Paul Thornton but is still behind John Collingwood and just ahead of John Rawdon who made a mistake early on and decided to save himself for the National on Sunday (which he won!!). I picked a good route having planned here 3 years ago but Tony Dallimore is still leading Dave Lloyd. Karen Blackburn won again and leads her group (as well as lying second in the open women category). James Gash won impressively, would have beaten most of the seniors and draws further away from Will Wright. The top result of the day was by Duncan & Marie Stuart who won the Generation class and beat all of the other mixed teams. Dave Day and Roz Bardon lead the Q class and are lying second to Paul Duncan and Ruth Greenwood in the Mixed category..
Paul Allen has written another excellent account which is attached below. You can see a full range of pictures and the results and splits on his excellent web page at http://www.mintcakemtb.co.uk/index.htm
Now you need to get fit for the main part of the season with 4 events in a fortnight just after the summer holidays.
The next league event is at Malham on Saturday 27th August. The details are on the site www.malhamdale.com and TCA web page but please enter the 4 hour event if you want your score to count in the league and please send your entries to Chris Wildman or email chris@malhamdale.com
The next Ebor MBO event is at the White Rose on Monday 29th August. Sue Adams is taking the entries again so please make her job easier by entering by the closing date. If you are emailing dont forget to include your Class, Full Name, Town, TCA (and SI) numbers.
Any entries received after Wednesday 24th will be treated as entries on the day. There will be spare maps available as usual but you might want to bring the 1-25000 OS sheet in case we get a flurry of entries on the day.
A fortnight later it is the Black Sheep MBO Marathon weekend with 2 events in the Dales starting at Askrigg. Both count for the league but you can enter one or both days. Why not make it a full weekend and stay at the event centre. 11 hours riding in superb terrain, pre-marked maps as usual, Fat Pigs meals all weekend, nearest pub only 200 yards away and all for half the price of the Polaris!!
The details, results and split times of all our MBO events are on the TCA, Ebor, Clok and Mintcake web pages. www.trailquest.co.uk www.eborienteers.org.uk www.clok.org.uk www.mintcakemtb.co.uk
I hope to see you at one of our events this year.
Cheers Steve
