Thanks for making the planning and organising worthwhile. I know from your comments that many of you really enjoyed the event even Saturday. The weather was awful on Friday when we started putting out the controls. I was just glad that the rain stopped so you only had fog to contend with on Saturday. It is the first time I have heard of riders having to use their compasses on a trailquest. Fortunately you were able to appreciate the superb scenery on Sunday and I had the bonus of having to take Monday off work to collect the final 5 controls around Arkengarthdale. Thanks to all of the control hangers and collectors who were out for at least as long as you over the weekend. I am sorry that control 21 was in the wrong place. It was on another fingerpost 1km east of the shooting hut. However, as I said in the final details, if you get to the right place on the map and the control isnt there, dont waste time looking for it. As it is our fault you will get the points. I hope it didnt spoil your ride and if we havent given you the points please let me know.
I would also like to thank the landowners for not raising any objections to the event. We do have an impact in a rural area so I have sent £250 to 2 charities the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and the Richmond Station Regeneration Project. We were also able to ride on 10 miles of permissive tracks. Please do not cause landowners problems in the future by using them on your social rides.
Unfortunately a few gates were left open near Castle Bolton. This is unacceptable and causes antagonism which we can do without. I know that gates are a pain to us but they keep the stock in the right fields so please close them. (After 4 hours at Malham I had gone through more gates than I encountered in 4 weeks in the Alps!)
There was a wide variety of routes chosen on both days. I just put a control on every track that I enjoyed riding. James Taylor seems to have ridden most of them an impressive score.
The next event is in Dalby Forest on October 15th. Please dont forget to print off the flier and take it with you or you will have to pay the full toll charge of £5.
Clok are organising a National 5 hour Trailquest at Guisborough on October 30th. It isnt in the North Yorkshire League but will be worth an entry because it is a superb area and Paul Thornton always plans challenging courses.
Dont forget that there is an extra event in November to replace the one that was cancelled in April. So the final league event of the season will be at Silton & Boltby Forests near Thirsk on Saturday 12th November. Please try to get there as we will have the presentation of prizes for the leading riders in all categories.
I had better get myself fit for Grizedale in a fortnight. Hope to see you there but if not it will probably be at Dalby because I cannot afford to enter the Polaris.
