Richmond Meet

3hr MBO Score Event

Sat 27th May 2006

Thanks for turning up to ride again last Saturday. The Holly Hill Inn makes a superb event centre with the views over the Swale towards Richmond Castle. Unfortunately the pub is at the bottom corner of the map so a lot of people – including me – had a hard ride back in the last hour to protect their scores. Even more unfortunate were those riders who didn’t make it. There were more riders incurred penalties than got back in time this month. I enjoyed my ride but chose the wrong anti-clockwise route around Feldom Ranges. All sorts of plans to get various controls around Washfold then Downholme with a fast descent through Hudswell. No chance but at least I cycled one new bridleway and didn’t get lost like a few riders at Windsor Lodge!!!

The best scores came from the riders who stayed closer to home with Geoff Moorhouse and Steve Foster using all those years of experience – as well as finely honed fitness – to beat all the younger riders – ie everyone else!!

The event was originally advertised as a 2 hour event on the Catterick Moors. Unfortunately the Army wouldn’t give permission to use the area so Nick had to resort to an extended version of the area I used for the winter treasure hunt. It seemed like a good opportunity to use the bridleways that I had avoided in the wetter weather.

The numbers were down but I would like to think that it was due to it being the bank holiday weekend. As the event was part of the Richmond Meet the profit (only £30) has been donated to local charities. If there is another reason why you didn’t ride please let me know as numbers seem to be dropping this year. In case it is lack of publicity, I have attached the flier for the next event as well as the league fixtures. Please can you print a copy and take them to your local bike shop, leisure centre or tourist information office and ask them to be put on display??

A class - Andrew Windrum and Wayne Nicholson are still leading although Nick Harmer pulled back a few points. Obviously he is training hard while planning the Castle Howard event with Danny Chan.

C class - John Rawdon is still leading although Mike Naylor scored better with Richard Martin close behind.

E class – Geoff and Steve got the highest score of the day to close the gap on Mike Barnard.

F class – Karen scored well again and beat all of the other ladies.

Frank and Jess still lead the Generation class as do Ros and Dave in the Veteran Mixed. They took advantage of the absence of Jon and Amanda Meeks as well as Paul and Ruth to extend their lead over the younger pairs. Will Wright won the Junior class on his own but he and James have still to ride in the same event this year.

I would like to thank the usual band of volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly especially Nick Southorn for planning the course then looking after the start and finish with Nicky.
