2hr MBO Score Event

Sat 17th March 2007

140 riders for the first event of the season on a blustery March day was very gratifying. Mike and Beth Pickwell had planned an excellent course by avoiding most of the wet singletrack and there was plenty of route choice. I promise that the muddy, windblown path by the wall west of #22 will be cleared before the next event in Cropton Forest!! If anyone wants to help I will let you know when!!

Another excellent map from Jens Strain and thanks again to all of the helpers.

Unfortunately 2 controls were not quite in the correct place. #15 was on the next track junction north although it was moved to the right junction when the error was discovered. The fire tower used for #2 was 200m SW of where the control was positioned.  Hopefully these errors didn’t spoil your ride. If you couldn’t find either control please let me know and I will amend your score.

There was some impressive scoring in all classes – except from the organiser who needs to get fitter!! However, I still had a brilliant 2 hours.

Wayne Nicholson showed that he doesn’t rely on Andrew Windrum’s navigating by winning overall – and he is now a veteran!!

Mandy Faint continued from last season by being the first woman in any category – including the Mixed teams – and 14th overall.

However the most impressive feature of Saturday’s event was the number of Generation teams – 18 pairs making this the largest category. So congratulations to Dean & Zac Field for putting their orienteering skills to good use.

There was just one item of lost property – a bike rear light. Andrew Weaver lost a pair of Kuota bike glasses so please let me know if you found them.

A number of riders sponsored Mike Pickwell for his Moroccan trek in aid of ‘Beating Bowel Cancer’.

As this event will make a profit of about £150, NYMBO will donate half to this worthy cause.

The next event is at Wass Forest on April 14th but the event venue has changed. We have lost the parking field near Wass village so we will be parking in a field at Studfold Ring - but there are no toilets!! Please use the facilities at Sutton Bank or Helmsley before you arrive.

The weekend event on the Wolds has changed to a 4 and 3 hour event instead of 7 and 5 hours so you will have to decide whether you want to do the NYMBO event or the Polaris. Details later.

I am sorry if you have been having difficulty getting information from the web pages .Now that holidays are over and work is settling down, the Ebor page is up to date and the NYMBO page should be by this weekend.

The split times and details of all our MBO events are on the TCA, NYMBO and Ebor web pages
