Notes from Kevin Holland, Eborienteers Club Secretary

As you all know, the Foot & Mouth crisis has affected our sport badly - even though we have held plenty of Street O events, the Park Race, and training events in Dalby & Olivers Mount, we have not held a full colour coded event since February!! We nearly had the Club Relays in Gilling, but had to cancel them at the very last minute after the Thirsk outbreak led to a lot of discomfort amongst the local farmers.

					BUT - AT LAST!!!!!!

Thanks to the hard work put in by Keith Macdermott, our Permissions Officer, Forest Enterprise have given us permission to hold a colour coded event on Sunday 28th October in Wheldrake Woods, just South of York.

This promises to be a very good event - for those of you who think you know Wheldrake, the longer courses have been planned (by me!) to go through all the best bits, some of which will surprise you for their runnability! The brambles are still there, of course, but careful route choice will help to reduce the number of scratches! The shorter courses go through the scenic parts of the wood, which is renowned for its variety of wildlife.

As this is our first event for ages (and the first event of the new 2001/2002 season), I would like to see all of our members there. If you have any friends who would like to try Orienteering, please bring them as well. Help will be available for novices, including a 'crib sheet' to get them started on the White course. An event flyer is enclosed with this letter. Please come along & support the Club. We have had a very trying year, and need to get back in the 'habit' of Orienteering - without your support, Eborienteers would not exist.
