Controllers Comments - Split Times

It has come to light that there was a synchronisation problem between some of the SI Control blocks used in the Wheldrake Night and Colour Coded events. Overall times are correct, but the problem affects some of the split times reported to have been taken on specific legs. The Start, Finish and Controls 102-119 and 140-142 were synchronised with one clock time, but a new set of control blocks numbered 120-139 were recording a different clock time. As a result, any legs between Controls in these two groups will show an incorrect split time. However, the error will be consistent across all competitors running the leg, so the difference in leg time between 2 competitors will always be valid.

We apologise for the error, which is in part due to our inexperience in running the new style SI control blocks which work in a different way to the conventional method used for the Start & Finish blocks and the old control blocks. We will ensure that clock time for future events will be fully synchronised.

The error, where it does exist, is approximately +40 secs or - 40secs. This information may be useful if you want to try figuring out real times for your splits but don't try it unless you are pretty handy with figures!

Note that for a few very fast runners on very short legs the reported split time may be negative and in those cases the sequence of split times will be incorrect, the fastest times being shown as the slowest because they appear to be negative.
