Sorry for the delay, I had to wait for John to return to be able to post these comments.
Special thanks to Roger for keeping control, and Ann for organising Roger. Even more special thanks to the excellent team of control collectors: Russell, Stuart, Mike, Roger (again) and Nicky who made packing up so much easier.
The majority of comments on the day were very favourable (see Egocentric etc post!) so thanks very much. The only negative comments centred on the green being 'too' hard and with hindsight maybe I should have included the much discussed short green. However, the green met BOF guidelines and on checking the times they compare uncannily similarly to both the previous two (2003 + 2004) events.
The main problem seemed to be that with starting on the west of Hood Hill, competitors then had to re-ascend the hill later on in their courses, when already tired (all those muddy paths), to get back to the finish. Apologies if this really affected your run, but it was a figuratively level playing field, albeit very muddy!
