Steve Whitehead

Steve Whitehead to run for England

Steve Whitehead has been selected to run for England in the Veterans Home International. The event consists of a relay and individual race and will take place at Calvine near Blair Atholl on November 17th and 18th. Good luck Steve.

- England won the overall event with Steve contributing 3rd place on M55L and 7th fastest time on his relay leg.

EBOR Club Committee

There will be a number of vacant positions on Eborienteers Committee to fill at this year’s AGM in December. Neville Myers will have completed three years as Chairman and will in accordance with the constitution be standing down from that position. After many years, Jim Harrison will be vacating the Treasurers role. Other committee members have also expressed a desire to take a rest so it is important for the club’s future that we get some new people to fill the vacancies. This could be your chance to get more involved. Vast experience in the sport and/or committee work elsewhere is not needed. What is required is a degree of enthusiasm and a relatively small time commitment to attend the monthly meetings and to complete the various duties and actions going with the position. If anyone is keen to get involved please get in touch with Neville or any other committee member to find out more.

BOF EGM

All BOF members should by now have received notice of the Extraordinary General Meeting which will take place near Rugby on 27th October. BOF are keen to ensure representation from all clubs and are therefore offering assistance with travel expenses to two representatives from each club. The EGM is accompanied by a club development conference which BOF are encouraging as many as possible to attend. If you are intending to go please let Neville Myers know so that we can ensure that the club is properly represented.

Northern Champions

In the Northern Championships held alongside the Attermire National Event in September, EBOR club members won 5 of the titles - the second largest number of any club (details here.)
(If you haven't collected your trophy, speak to Christine Roberts.)

This was won by Team Corrigan (Steve, Jill and Allison).

Peter Represents GB at European Trail-O Championships

Peter Roberts has been selected to to represent British Orienteering at the European Trail Orienteering Championships from 10 - 12 July at Carcans Maubuisson, which is situated in the Aquitaine region of France. The sand dune terrain is expected to be complex and will require very careful interpretation of the contours. The French 5 day is being held in the same area and a good competition is expected.
Peter is the reigning British Trail-O Champion. He is currently planning the 2007 British Trail-O champs (penalty for winning in 2006!!!!!!!!!) at Tarn Hows in the Lake District on the weekend 8/9th September. All are welcome.

Congratulations to everyone.

Linda Whitehead was, no doubt, inspired by daughter Jenny who took the women's elite title for SYO by a 7 min margin.

Barrie & Celia retain JK titles

Barrie Speake (M65L) and Celia Wells (W70L) both retained the titles they won at JK 2006 and Matt Speake was only one place off taking the top spot this year in M21E. (How many years is it since an Eborienteer last got so close to the M21E title?).

They were backed up by a number of other top 5 performances.

EBOR pair help England to victory in Interland

Congratulations to Alice Leake and Andy Monro who were selected to represent England in the Interland competition on 17th March against Germany, Belgium and Holland. Alice came 4th in W17 (of 14) and Andy came 25th in M-elite (of 36). Their scores helped England to a comfortable victory.

Steve Whitehead and Barrie Speake were selected as veteran reserves but didn't get to make the trip.

Compass Sport Cup

Many thanks to all those who braved the weather to represent the club at Greno on 18 March in our regional heat of the Compass Sport Cup. The club scores in the major clubs competition were:

  SYO 2374
  AIRE 2306
  EBOR 2191
  DVO 2007

SYO and AIRE will compete in the final in October.

Robin Hood Trophy

Ebor have won the trophy for the second year in a row. Congratulations to all scorers and eveyrone else who took part. It is one of those competitions where you really need a good turn out of runners in all the different classes.

Club Dinner

About 38 club members enjoyed a splendid dinner at The Four Alls on the Malton road. The food was very tasty and very generous - even for orienteers with large appetites. This would undoubtedly be a popular spot for a revisit next year.
