Club Champs Rescheduled

Due to access problems the Club Champs for 2008 were postponed earlier in the year. They have now been re-arranged for Sunday 14th December and will take place at the HALO district event at Primrose Warren. Details of which course to run and how to enter will be issued later. I know this isn’t our usual arrangements for the championships but it is the only way we can fit it into the calendar before the end of the year.

Preparation for the 2009 Club Champs are well under way and they will be held at the usual time of the year (June) and will run along side the Club relays with an opportunity to camp nearby.

Peter Palmer Relay

On Sunday 7th Sept the junior section of Ebor represented the club in the annual Peter Palmer Relay event. This year it was held fairly locally at Middleton Park in Leeds and the event attracted over 30 teams from clubs across the UK. Ebor had two teams entered with 13 juniors taking part. The race, which began at 5.00am with two ‘night’ legs, turned out to be extremely exciting with Ebor 1 having a really good chance of winning going into the final leg. A detailed report will be presented in the next issue of the Eboracle.

The final result for the Peter Palmer Trophy was:

1st        MDOC
2nd       EBOR 1 (only 50 seconds behind MDOC)
3rd        OD
19th      EBOR 2

SARUM finished second overall but took the Joan George Trophy which is awarded to the best team with a total team age of less than 90.

The event was extremely well organised by AIRE with some great planning. The use of two spectator controls and butterfly loops kept everyone excited and the live link to one of these controls meant everyone knew the team positions and time differences minute by minute.

Well done to all the EBOR juniors it was great to watch. Well done also to the adults who organised, encouraged and supported the runners, Stuart Hooton (Team Manager), Dave Brown, Amanda Cooper and Alison Malley

Team Members:

EBOR 1
Alice Leake, Zac Field, Stuart Fraser, Rachael Malley, Jake Field, Lova Chechik, Jonny Malley

EBOR 2
Jonny Hooton, Stephen Clark, Josh Cooper, Megan Malley, Sophie Reed, Yasha Chechik

White Rose Presentation Evening

The following awards were presented at the White Rose barbeque:

Prizes for the Ebor Colour Coded League 2008 and the Summer Score League 2008 were also awarded.
Congratulations to all the prize winners.

Heather Selected for WUOC

Heather Gardner has been selected to run in the World University Orienteering Championships to be held in Estonia at the end of July.

Helen Wins International Medal at Interland

The Interland is an annual pentangular competition between England, Flemish & French parts of Belgium, Holland and NW Germany, which began in 1995. Each team includes competitors from 7 age groups ranging from W and M14 to W and M60+: 42 team members in all. It is the only match in which England competes outside the British Isles. This year it was held at Budel, near Weert, SE Holland on 2nd March.

Congratulations go to Helen Gardner who won a Bronze medal in the D-50 class. Unfortunately she did not win any points for England since Gold & Silver also went to English runners - the only class in which one country took all the medals. Overall England were winners narrowly beating the Wolloons into 2nd place.

New Chairman & Treasurer

At an important EGM, on Wed 13th Feb at Huntington Community Centre, a new Chairman and Treasurer were appointed, both unanimously. They are:
Chairman: Dennis Hooton (nominated by Neville Myers & seconded by Sue Relton)
Treasurer: Bill Griffiths (nominated by Barrie Speake & seconded by Neville Myers).

Neville Myers and Jim Harrison were both warmly thanked for their service to the club as previous Chairman and Treasurer.

Robin Hood Trophy, 10 Feb. Hat Trick for Ebor

Team Ebor were pushed hard by teams from MDOC, NOC, SYO, OD, DVO, but Ebor came out on top and retained the trophy for a 3rd consecutive year.
Scorers for Ebor were Barrie Speak, Jonny Malley, Lizzie Adams, Karen Clark, Helen Gardner, Jillian Currey, Josh Beech, Alice Leake, Dean Field, Chris Toop, Amy Brown and Amanda Cooper.
Congratulations to them and everyone else who turned out to make a big effort for the club.

About 40 club members enjoyed a splendid dinner at Wheldrake golf course. Thanks, once again, to Sue Relton for organising this.
