EBOR TRAINING BRAYTON BARFF 16/1/99

A WHITE COURSE 1.5km
This course sticks to paths and is suitable for complete novices because there is a control at every junction.
B YELLOW COURSE 1.6km
This course also sticks to the paths but it is harder than a white course because you have to go past junctions and change direction. There is also some route choice.
C CUTTING CORNERS 1.5km
This course is designed to encourage you to take short cuts through the trees to save time. You can practise your basic compass techniques.
D CORRIDOR EXERCISE 1.6km
Don't copy this course onto a coloured map because you are not supposed to have any information outside the strip of pre-marked map. Try to go straight where brambles allow using your compass for direction and ticking off the major features as you pass them on the straight-line route
E CONTROL PICKING 1.7km
No route choice - try to go straight using each control as the attack point for the next one. Use your compass for basic direction and map orientation making the features match the map. Pace counting isn't necessary but may help with distance if you need to relocate.
F MAP MEMORY 1.6km or 2.9km
Don't take a map with you. Look at the small section of map at the start and remember the basic detail needed to get to control 1. At each control there is a mini-map board showing the next control .
There are copies of this course for beginners who have completed the yellow course.
