The course is for anyone instructing beginners in the basics of orienteering :
Teachers and qualified youth workers are eligible to receive the British Orienteering Federation (BOF) Certificate of attendance.
Prior orienteering experience is not essential.
The course comprises two 4.00 - 7.30pm sessions.
Tutors:
Approved BOF tutors from EBORIENTEERS.
Fees:
Course attendance £25 per person.
BOF certificates (£5) paid for by City of York Council, if working in the
area.
Venue:
Rawcliffe Bar Country Park is on the north side of
York, adjacent to the Park and Ride at the junction of the A19 York to Thirsk
road and York's northern outer ring road.

Further Information:
The Course is practical. Participants
should bring outdoor clothing and footwear. A compass is not essential.
Topics will include the nature of orienteering and orienteering maps, curricular links, safety, adventure and enjoyment. Indoor and outdoor exercises will be undertaken. These are suitable for use in schools and local parks.
Videos will be shown illustrating the sport and the skills involved. Information will be available on local clubs and on permanent orienteering facilities open to the public.

BOF Instructors Award:
The Teacher/Leader Course counts as the first day of the two-day BOF Instructors Course. To gain the BOF Instructors Award it is necessary to attend a further one day course and then a separate assessment. Mainstream orienteering experience is needed before applying for the assessment. Qualification as a BOF Instructor is strongly recommended for any teacher/leader taking groups into terrain which is physically and navigationally challenging.
