Richard Clark

After recently being diagnosed with MND, Richard Clark passed away whilst at home on Sunday evening the 26th October.
Richard was a long time member of Ebor and he will be greatly missed by his many friends in the club.
The funeral will take place at the East Riding Crematorium, Octon on Thursday 20th November at 10.30. Our thoughts are with Karen, Stephen, Matthew and Thomas at this very difficult time.

Here is a memory of Richard from Peter Udris:
These are my thoughts and memories from 1978 to 1985 (when I Passed my driving test).

Richard used to drive my works minibus for us mainly to take the younger orienteers to badge events and J.K.’s who otherwise wouldn’t have experienced these.  We used to go to the Lakes a lot camping over.

We also did some longer weekends to Scotland with two buses Dave Binks driving the other one, with roof racks laden up.

We also used the bus for club weekends at places like Sutherland Lodge and Gilling, evenings always spent in the pub Richard liked  a beer having been the Secretary of CAMRA.

We also had some good fun when just 3 or 4 of us went away for the weekend using the bus as motorhome, camping in it.

The best time we had was in 1982 when Richard, Stuart Amor, Tommy foster and me went on a big European Tour, leaving Hull by Ferry we headed to Belgium and then drove down through France to Mulhouse on the Swiss border, where we completed in the French 3 days, after that we drove up through Germany camping overnight before catching a ferry to Denmark where we went to Copenhagen and a look around the impressive Tivoli Gardens.  Then we caught a ferry across to Sweden (It has a bridge now!), camping at a place called Jonkoping a lovely site with a lake and waterslide.  We then drove up to Umea on the Arctic Circle staying on a vast campsite for Swedish O Ringen 5 days of competitions with over 26000 competitors in those days (more than the Olympics).  After the orienteering we heads straight back down to Jonkoping for 3 nights and a rest, then a ferry back to Newcastle, some trip over 3 weeks!

I will always remember Richards sense of humour and the nights we spent at club nights in the Royal Oak and nights in The Spread Eagle in Walmgate where we christened a new beer brewed by a company that set up on my works industrial estate in Elvington.
